Our Story
The story of Villa Rosa Tarvisio
How Villa Rosa came to be — a small honest story about mountains, time and the kind of place we wished existed.
Prologue
"I didn't want to create just a place to sleep.
I wanted to create a feeling."
— The owner
The Dream
A small idea about mountain life.
For years it was just a feeling. A wish for slower mornings, longer walks, and dinners that don't end at nine. The kind of life you only get when the mountains are outside the window — not three hours away on a Friday afternoon.
We weren't looking for a project. We were looking for a place where time felt different.

Why Tarvisio
A valley between three countries.
Tarvisio wasn't on any list. We found it by accident, on a drive from Austria to Italy, and stopped for coffee. We never quite left.
Three borders. Two languages. Mountains in every direction. A town small enough to feel like yours by the end of the week — and old enough to feel like it has stories of its own.

Chapter 03 · The Coffee Moment
The morning that
changed everything.
A quiet morning.
A coffee.
An older gentleman, enjoying an espresso
and a small glass of wine.
No rush. No stress.
Just presence.
That single, ordinary moment became the vision behind Villa Rosa — a place where time slows down enough to notice it again.
Finding Villa Rosa
Some places simply feel right.
We saw a lot of apartments before we walked into this one. Faded pink walls, tall windows, a balcony that looked straight at the Alps. The kind of building people don't make anymore.
It needed work. A lot of it. But the bones were honest, the light was extraordinary, and the address was the heart of town. We knew before we left the room.

"Some places simply feel right.
This one did, from the first afternoon."
Chapter 05 · The Transformation

to Villa Rosa.
Two years of careful work. Drag the slider to see how the rooms came back to life.

Chapter 06 · The Journey
From first key
to first guest.
Finding the apartment
A pink building, an open door, and a feeling we couldn't quite explain.
Designing the vision
Long evenings sketching the layout around a single long wooden table.
Months of renovation
Plastered walls, restored parquet, hand-picked materials. No shortcuts.
Welcoming the first guests
The first coffee poured for someone other than us. A nervous, happy morning.
Today
A home shared with travellers who come for the mountains and stay for the calm.
Chapter 07 · A Manifesto
Doing nothing
is an activity here.
Slow
Mornings that begin with light, not alarms.
Quiet
A book, a balcony, the sound of the valley waking up.
Present
An espresso. A long lunch. Nowhere else to be.
Chapter 08 · The Geography
Three countries.
One basecamp.
From the door of Villa Rosa, three nations are within a short drive. Different cultures, one valley.
Italy
Espresso, pasta, dolce vita.
Austria
Strudel, lakes, alpine charm.
Slovenia
Forests, gorges, hidden valleys.
